The furnace has a high quality rigid stainless steel outer case with a polished finish. Rigidity is important to prevent the insulation cracking in service and to allow high temperature extensometers to be mounted directly on the furnace case.

 

Additionally, the unit features high efficiency ceramic fiber insulation in support of accurate temperature management and safe working.

The twister is designed to check the number of twists required to fracture a wire. Normally furnished as a bench unit, these machines are also available as floor models, and as multiple twisting units for simultaneously testing two, three or more samples.

 

The standard, variable speed, motor drive makes up to 62 twists per minute (rpm) with a maximum torsion rating of 1,500in.lbs. A counter indicates the total number of twists, and automatically stops the machine when the specimen fails.

 

Wire samples up to 18in long can be accomodated. An initial tensile load of up to 150lb can be applied to prevent kinking. Load is read in 2lb, increment on a scale.

Model MHT-1,000 horizontal testing machine offer unique benefits over vertically oriented testers by allowing a range of accessories to be mounted next to the machine to turn it into a fully automatic testing station.

 

They are designed primarily for production departments and are typically in constant use; however, the grips can be modified to accommodate different shaped samples and alternate grips can be provided for customers when test requirements change.

 

The horizontal extensometer that is typically used with the machine has a unique design that incorporates pneumatic controls to automatically lower the arms prior to the test and raise the arms at the end of the test. Air bearings on the extensometer provide accurate strain measurement through fracture.
