Application : The AE900 extensometer is specifically designed for applications with highly lengthening materials such as plastics and rubber, incorporating long travel (up to 900 mm). The AE900 complements relatively lowcost instruments used for the testing of plastics.
Design and function : The AE900 will be operated at semi- and full automatic testing systems, particularly for applications, where the gauge length must not have to be changed very often. The AE900 works semi-automatic, the positioning of the measuring arms with respect to the middle of the sample as well as the setting of the initial gauge length has to be done manually (once before the test starts). Clamping and unclamping of the measuring arms respectively moving to the manually before adjusted position and gauge length will be done automatically
(electrically motor-driven). As long as the Le-value and –position remain unchanged no manual operation is required. The AE900 is suitable for nearly all samples (from a gauge length of Le 10 mm) up to sample rupture. Measuring direction upwards or downwards is available. The measuring heads may be removed from the device easily and quickly by means of a screw/insert system.

Because of its rugged construction and high accuracy the AEX200 nearly meets all applications in measurement of linear strain (determination of the E-modulus up to sample fracture). It works without restrictions in both the upper as well as the lower test area.
Design and function : The AEX500 has a smooth running and nearly frictionless linear guidance of the measuring heads. Due to the non-contact incremental gauge the AEX meets all requirements of class 0.5 (EN ISO 9513) over the whole travel. The measuring heads may easily and quickly be removed from the device by unlocking two screws with pin guidance.

Since there is no contact of this extensometer with the sample, the 600LS is ideal for also measuring the elongation of fragile samples where such contact could induce a premature sample break.

 

The model 600LS uses a low power laser diode with precision optical components and a dedicated 32 bit processor. The laser projects a visible red scanning beam that is directed at two reflective targets attached to the specimen. An additional benefit of using laser technology is its ability to scan the test specimen through the glass viewing window of an environmental test

A typical application is the testing of polycarbonate, where a high resolution system is required to measure the E modulus (Youngs modulus) and a secondary system is required to measure elongation to the point of break, which typically could be as high as 200% strain.

 

Other materials the 100S extensometer is ideally suited to include polyurethane, polyethylene (PET), glass reinforced plastics (GRP), and aluminum alloys.

 

The unique design ensures an extremely low tracking force for testing sensitive materials and a construction that is sufficiently robust to withstand the release force when the specimen breaks. An important feature is the ease with which the extensometer clamps can be attached to the specimen, resulting in very rapid testing throughput.
